Cookies & tracking

A plain-language description of the technology used on this site.

Essential form session

The site uses a session cookie named blog_session when you use a form. It helps protect submissions against unauthorised requests. It is a browser-session cookie, marked HttpOnly and SameSite=Lax, and is marked Secure when served over HTTPS.

Newsletter-event tracking

A first-party script is included on ordinary pages. When a newsletter link contains campaign and recipient parameters, it can send a visit event with technical request data to our tracking service. The script does not itself write a cookie or browser local storage. Tracking identifiers in URLs may still relate to an individual.

Special email pages

The unsubscribe page loads the unsubscribe tracking script only after the confirmation button is pressed. The email-open page records an event through the server without a JavaScript tracking script. Mail privacy features can affect whether an open corresponds to a person reading a message.

Advertisements

No AdSense ad code is active in this launch version. Applicable consent mechanisms and an updated vendor disclosure must be in place before advertising technologies requiring them are activated.

Your controls

You can block or clear cookies in your browser, although the forms depend on their session cookie. Use an email’s personalised unsubscribe link to leave the mailing list, or contact us for help with tracking or privacy questions. See the privacy policy for data use and retention.
